First Friday: The April Edition

Deinfluencing, not-so-pretty favourites and rude reality checks.

From unsexy recommendations to facing the reality that your twenties and thirties may not be panning out quite the same as it did for your parents—this month, we’re talking about how real can be refreshing.

Trending Lifestyle Audios

We Belong Together SPED UP

This cute, upbeat song is currently trending on Instagram. The original video using the sound was posted at the end of February and people have been using it all throughout March—there are currently 34.1K reels that are using it, like this one!

My Girl [Wukileak]

This audio is a remix of the song “My Girl” by The Temptations. The upbeat, fast-paced audio took off in early February but is still going strong. It is being used across many genres on Instagram, from dogs to a tasty Sunday brunch.

What’s new in influencing?

Unsexy recommendations

While the idea isn't groundbreaking, authentic and "real" content continues to gain traction on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. With the rapid evolution of influencer culture in recent years, overpriced and overhyped products flood our feeds, touted as "life-changing" and "must-have" by influencers. This marketing tactic can occasionally rely on false promises and deception.

However, amidst this sea of exaggeration, a refreshing trend is emerging, particularly in the realm of beauty products. TikToker Becca Havian, for instance, recently shared a video titled "Unsexy Products That I Swear By." In it, she enthusiastically recommends some of her favourite, albeit less glamorous, products, ranging from Cocofloss to True Lime packets. After all, who doesn't have a few unsexy favourites that they're eager to rave about whenever given the chance?

Deinfluencing

Venturing even further from the conventional playbook is the emerging trend of "de-influencing." Creators like Christina Mychas are boldly addressing the pitfalls of trying to keep pace with the revolving door of trends on social media. This movement opens up discussions on sensible spending habits and the value of living within your means—a conversation previously absent in influencer culture.

In a similar vein, Alyssa Stephanie recently took to TikTok to dish on products she tried, despised, and never looked back on. Instead, she offers up wallet-friendly alternatives of superior quality. While the idea of product "dupes" isn't new, it's now being approached in a fresh, unconventional manner.

Times have changed. Let’s laugh about it.

Our parents in their twenties versus us

Let's face it: being a twenty- or thirty-something today is a whole new ball game compared to 30 years ago. Maybe it's because we now have platforms to air our struggles publicly, or perhaps the times have just changed dramatically.

Either way, twenty-somethings are gleefully comparing their lives to where their parents were at the same age, and it's downright hilarious. From tying the knot and having kids to still eagerly awaiting the Easter Bunny’s visit at 28 years old, the comparisons are rolling in, and we can't help but chuckle.

As we dive into spring, let's embrace the refreshing trends in lifestyle audio and influencing. From the rise of authenticity to the humour in comparing generations, there's plenty to smile about as we navigate the changing seasons!

As the times have changed, so has the typical office space.

Working from home: it's not just a preference, it's a way of life. In our latest blog post, Adverbian Paige Simpson unpacks the perks of remote work and why it's a game-changer for productivity. From saying goodbye to expensive lunches to creating her own productivity paradise, Paige shares her journey and why she thrives in the comfort of her own home office. Click here to dive in and discover the joys of remote work.

As April unfolds, we're eagerly anticipating to see what trends lie ahead! What are your predictions as we jump into spring?
