We’re Hiring!

Adverb is looking for our next great team member. Check out this opportunity.

Content Specialist

At Adverb Communications, we believe great stories have the power to change the world. And we’re always looking for the next story to tell.

For us, that means the next strategy that propels an organization to greatness, or content so compelling (notice how we didn’t say “viral”?) that it makes followers fall in love with a brand all over again.

How do we do it? We start with the core belief that how you communicate is just as important as what you communicate. And we infuse our values (you might want to read those here) into everything we do, so that we show up every day for our clients and for each other.

Is any of this resonating with you? Because if it is, you might very well be Adverb’s next team member.

We’re looking for a creative and organized Content Specialist who can help us create strategic, thumb-stopping content for our clients. Ideally, you have 2-4 years of experience doing this kind of work, and thrive in both virtual and in-person settings—we have a hybrid way of working at Adverb.

To be effective in this role, you have to be a strategic thinker and an outstanding creator. You’re equally comfortable writing a long-form article or blog post as you are creating a TikTok. You’re great with people, and you know how to coach them to feel comfortable on camera. You have your fingers on the pulse of what’s trending online. And you know when there’s 1️⃣✌️many emojis in a social post.

You have an eye for good design. And software like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite are very familiar to you.

Here’s the rest of the nitty gritty (or, in its more formal form, Nitticus Gritticus).

Main responsibilities

  • Turning brand, communications and social media strategies into effective content for clients

  • Leading and facilitating meetings with clients to gather requirements, input and feedback on content plans

  • Creating content—often with the help of clients—in the form of words, photos, videos, and graphics

  • Working with Adverb team members to provide input and feedback on client research, strategies and content plans

  • Identifying and communicating issues, blockers and opportunities and bringing those forward to the right people

What you bring to the table

  • Confidence working with clients and other Adverb team members. In times of stress, you’re like the eye of the hurricane

  • A keen attention to detail: you know what a comma splice is and you want them all destroyed

  • A strong sense of what “works” in terms of good content, given a brand, audience and goals

  • A hunger to learn: you’re always looking for the next great social media platform or idea

  • A high tolerance—if not utter delight—for word play

  • A strong connection to Adverb’s values

Key qualifications

Must have:

  • 2-5 years of experience creating and publishing digital content based on existing plans and strategies

  • Excellent understanding of social media platforms, from Facebook to TikTok and everything in between

  • Strong writing and communications skills

  • Strong knowledge of Google Workspace Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc) or equivalent

  • Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in a communications agency or at a client-side in-house agency

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in business, arts, or communications or equivalent experience

  • A portfolio of engaging and creative digital content you’ve created

  • Preference will be given to candidates based in the Edmonton area

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every qualification. At Adverb, we know that great ideas require diverse perspectives. So, if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate.

Salary range and benefits

The annual salary range for this position is $50,000 to $65,000. Here are some of the other perks we offer Adverb team members:

  • Three weeks of vacation and Flex Time

  • Time off between Christmas and New Year’s Day

  • Monthly phone allowance

  • Paid annual memberships in industry associations

  • Health, Dental and Eyecare Benefits

  • Health Spending Account

  • Annual bonus and profit-sharing

  • Monthly co-working space allowance (if located outside Edmonton)
