First Friday: The February Edition

As we say farewell to the first month of 2024, let’s look back on the trends that kicked off the year and what’s to come for February.

Welcome to the First Friday, Adverb’s monthly trend report!

January was a month of saying goodbye to 2023's ups and downs, and welcoming 2024 with big goals and excitement for what’s to come! This meant talking about the in’s and out’s of 2024, reflecting on the difference between January 2023 and 2024 you, and making predictions about what will be checked off our 2024 bingo cards.

As we enter into February, there are a few trends that will likely come with us and continue to evolve. Here’s what we think:

Trending Lifestyle Audios

We’re Focused by Etahno

This seven-second chill music clip is quickly growing on Instagram Reels, largely for aesthetic videos, motivational videos, or just positive, happy videos.

Use this trend to share your montage of a regular Saturday morning, or to shoot a product promotion clip!

Dance You Outta My Head by Cat Janice

This audio is trending across TikTok, for a great reason (and cause)! Artist, Cat Janice, is dying of cancer and wrote this song as a final farewell. She signed all the rights to the song over to her son to pay for school and music lessons after she passes away.

Use this song alongside fun lifestyle content you may be producing, or simply bust it down for fifteen seconds and upload it for a good cause. Alix Earl, Anna Sitar, and Kat Stickler did it – so can you!

ASMR & Silent Reviews

Yes, ASMR videos are continuing to trend across video-based social platforms. However, more and more brands are jumping into this genre of content to promote their products in a new way. Currently, “silent reviews” are growing in popularity as a comical take on ASMR to review beauty products, books, food and more!

Unhinged Storytelling

TikTok is a land where a good hook and unique storytelling are a must to tie viewers in for your full short-form videos while keeping them coming back. “Storytime” styled content continues to grow in video content, even in advertising.

TikToker and podcaster, Jake Shane, created a series that comedically humanizes everyday objects and events. Whether he’s depicting the sun as a fed-up and overworked friend, or a toothbrush as a beaten-down little dude who doesn’t feel like he’s enough, Jake is telling stories that hook an audience and tell stories in a new and interesting way.

Spotify Daylists

In the fall of 2023, Spotify released a new feature for its users that curates personalized playlists throughout the day based on users’ music tastes. Each playlist is unique to the listener and comes with an equally unique name that some find funny, and sometimes humbling.

Since this feature was released, posting screenshots of daylists has become a popular trend across Instagram. Some playlists are pure gold, while others are just plain laughable.

This week, Adverb decided to take the trend and add our little touch, by curating our own daylists that are stranger than Spotify could ever manage to curate. Whether you’re wondering what it would be like to sit in a medieval pub and listen to country tunes simultaneously, or are you looking for ten interrupted hours of large box fan noises to keep you focused? We’ve got you covered.

As we kick off February, we're looking forward to seeing what sticks and what else is coming down the line! What are your trend predictions for the month?
